Step Inside: The Thomas Vaughan Ltd Accessible Kitchen

Beyond the Blueprint: Immersive Design at the Thomas Vaughan Ltd Studio

In the world of specialist design, there is often a "translation gap" between a 2D floor plan and the lived experience of a wheelchair user or someone with limited mobility. At Thomas Vaughan Ltd, we are closing that gap.

We are proud to unveil our new VR Fly-Through, a high-speed digital tour of our flagship Accessible Kitchen. This isn't just a tech showcase; it’s a precision tool for the professionals—Architects, Designers, and Occupational Therapists—who are tasked with turning "accessible" into "aspirational."

For Architects & Designers: Precision Meets Aesthetic

For the design community, the challenge is often integrating Part M compliance without sacrificing the "heart of the home" feel. Our VR tour highlights how we’ve mastered this balance:

  • Spatial Fluidity: Experience the turning circles and knee-clearance zones in a 3D context, ensuring that ergonomics never compromise the kitchen's flow.

  • Seamless Integration: Observe how we’ve hidden complex engineering—such as rise-and-fall worktops and pull-down baskets—within sleek, contemporary cabinetry.

  • Materiality & Light: Visualise how bespoke finishes and task lighting work together to aid those with visual impairments while maintaining a high-end, designer aesthetic.

For Occupational Therapists: Validating Independence

We know that for an OT, the priority is functional independence. Our virtual studio allows you to "walk through" a client's potential environment before a single timber is cut:

  • Task Analysis: Evaluate the reach-ranges for hobs, sinks, and ovens from a seated position.

  • Safety & Sequencing: Assess the logic of the layout, ensuring the distance between "hot" zones and "wet" zones is minimised for safer meal preparation.

  • Evidence-Based Specification: Use the VR experience as a clinical tool to demonstrate to clients and funders exactly how a specific layout will mitigate risk and promote autonomy.

"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works." > Our VR Fly-Through proves that for the modern home, 'accessible' is synonymous with 'exceptional.'
