At Thomas Vaughan Ltd, we believe that a kitchen should be the heart of the home for everyone. Often, "accessible" kitchens can feel clinical or purely functional, but our partnership with the Symphony Freedom range is changing that narrative.
Recently, Paralympic legend and crossbench peer Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson revealed why the Freedom range has been a "game-changer" for her own home. Her experience perfectly mirrors the philosophy we hold at our Treforest studio: that accessibility should never come at the cost of style.

"It Feels Designed For Me, Not Adapted"
Tanni admits she was initially hesitant about accessible kitchens, fearing they would look clinical. However, the Freedom range—designed in collaboration with expert Adam Thomas—proved that you can have a high-end, contemporary aesthetic with life-changing functionality hidden beneath the surface.
"I don't feel like my kitchen was ‘adapted’. It feels like it was designed for me – and that’s a huge difference." — Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson
Key Features Tanni Loves (and You Can Try!)
Tanni’s kitchen features the stunning Langdale range in Fern Green, proving that "accessible" can be incredibly chic. Here are the features she highlights as transformative:
Rise-and-Fall Worktops: Whether you are standing or seated, the worktop height can be adjusted at the touch of a button (or via the Ropox Connect app). This allowed Tanni and her husband, Ian, to finally share a workspace rather than having separate "zones."
Pull-Down Wall Units: Gone are the days of inaccessible top shelves. These units glide down to a reachable height, bringing everything into view.
Voice-Controlled Appliances: Using NEFF Smart appliances, Tanni can now open the fridge or operate the oven using voice commands—a vital feature for anyone with restricted mobility or simply full hands!
The Accessible Hot Water Tap: Her kitchen features the first boiling water tap (Quooker/Zip) safe enough to be mounted on a rise-and-fall worktop, complete with a pull-out hose for ease of use.
Experience "Freedom" at Thomas Vaughan
We are proud to be one of the first companies in Wales to supply and install the Symphony Freedom range. But we don’t just want you to read about it—we want you to experience it.
Our Treforest Design Studio features a fully working Freedom kitchen. We invite you (and your Occupational Therapist or family members) to come in, make a cup of tea, and actually test the rise-and-fall counters and pull-down units for yourself.
To ensure it’s the perfect fit, we use 4D Virtual Reality technology to let you "walk through" your bespoke design before we even begin the installation.
