On Thursday 23rd April 2026, Thomas Vaughan Ltd will be hosting a dedicated professional event focused on accessible living and the role thoughtful design plays in supporting independence at home.


This professional event will explore accessible home design for independent living, including practical solutions that support Occupational Therapists, housing professionals and local authorities involved in home adaptations and Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG).

Held at our Design Studio, this full-day event will bring together Occupational Therapists, Case Managers, Local Authority professionals and specialists working in accessible housing to explore practical, real-world solutions that help people remain independent in their own homes.

As the demand for accessible housing solutions continues to grow, collaboration between professionals across healthcare, housing and design has never been more important. This event has been created to provide a relaxed but informative environment where professionals can share knowledge, explore solutions and discuss the challenges of creating homes that truly support independence.


Supporting Occupational Therapists and Housing Professionals in Accessible Home Design


A Day of Insight and Practical Solutions

The event will run from 9.30am to 4.00pm and will feature five expert speakers, each bringing valuable professional insight into different aspects of accessible living.

Confirmed speakers include:


Adam Thomas – Accessible Kitchen Design: Supporting Independence Through Practical Design. Exploring how thoughtful kitchen design can support independence, dignity and day-to-day usability.


Steve Thomas – Designing Homes for Independence. Sharing practical approaches to designing spaces that adapt to changing mobility needs.


Stuart Barrow – The OT’s Blueprint for DFG Success. Looking at the important role Occupational Therapists play within successful Disabled Facilities Grant applications.


Dean Nelson – Connecting the Home: Through-Floor Lift Solutions for Independent Living. Examining how through-floor lifts can enable safe and practical access between levels within the home.


A further short session will also be delivered by Sara Head, offering additional professional perspectives on accessible living.
